Future me
LOL! Found this today and could not resist.
Not only does it have soup (the debauchery kind I’m sure) – but look! Looky look!
It’s me in a dress made in my favorite color – my long hair that I refuse to cut in a bun, and my future cat. (The others must be lurking just out of the view of the artist because I threaten to have at least a dozen).
That’s cranberry juice in the glass as I still don’t drink – and probably that’s a photo of my son on the wall. He must be doing quite well for himself wearing a suit and all.
Someone must have snuck in and placed that lace doily table-cloth on top of my perfectly ravishing red one, because I wouldn’t have put it there.
😉
‘Blending in with the desert’
My ghostly man amongst the cacti. It’s sunset and he’s very, very still. A desert meditation?
This one was fun to do. Involved wax, watercolor, and acrylics & using the front and backside of the paper. Oh, and artificial light. Love this one. I think it’s the first piece I’ve photographed and thought – ‘wow … ok, that’s actually good’.
Selling the galaxy far, far away …
Read a great blog about the Star Wars purchase. My first reaction to the news was much like Darth Vader’s “Noooooooooo!” George Lucas sold out?! My son’s reaction was excitement that there will be more movies.
My comment on the blog was “It’s like your dad suddenly adding something to a yard sale that you were never allowed to touch in the house while growing up”.
Star Wars was something (depending on your age) that was ours! I know I got a little possessive over it. But I suppose that’s the point. Disney says we now have to share.
I guess the new generation wins. They’ll get to experience the thrill of sitting in the theater, getting goosebumps when the 20th Century Fox drums start to beat. I just hope the fanfare isn’t the best part of the movie experience.
Wait!! It’s Disney … does that mean no more Fox drums?! :-O
Hopefully that’s part of Fox that Disney owns.
Puffy parking lot pigeons and pantries
There’s a zing in the air! No, really – this time of year, you’re prone in this neck of the woods (or desert) to get shocked every time you touch your car, open a metal door or make contact with a shelf in a store. But I digress. There’s a zing in the air!!
My sons gift is on layaway! I won’t say what it is because I still delude myself into believing he’s interested enough from time to time to read my blog. I’m pretty sure the only time he does, is when I make him so I can hear what it sounds like from a readers point of view.
Anyway. I left the store and noticed all the pigeons finding shelter from the wind under cars. Adorable. All puffed up like they were courting. I would have taken a photo of my personal car pigeon, but I forgot to turn the alarm off before I opened the trunk. Needless to say my photo-op left.
Here’s one courtesy of the web – is this where I say I don’t own any rights to the pigeon photo? Because I don’t. (What’s the penalty for ‘borrowing’ an image? I do it a lot).
I also came home with a pantry organizer. It hangs over the back of the pantry door. If the dog was capable of laughing, she’d probably already be snickering at the fact that I think I can build this thing.
ALMOST came home with a chocolate advent calendar. It was on sale. The picture on it was so cheery and holiday-ish, it fit my mood. I left it at the grocery store, I figured I might be pushing that chocolate a little having it sit waiting for its little doors and windows to be opened for over a month.
As I left the store, and after I filled the car up with gas – I was fit to burst with happiness. I figured it out. What makes me happy. Being able to provide the necessities for the people in my life and to spread a little joy. I was so excited to bring the groceries in, and believe me, I KNOW how fortunate I am. So very grateful to be able to afford food and gas. And I love that I notice the pigeons trying to stay warm.
I get you little car pigeon – I’m a nester too. 🙂
I’m not a groupie!
Was that eye-catching enough?
Been thinking lately about passion.
My son and I had a chat about this. His plan for after graduation was to pursue higher education in the culinary field. I know he has an interest in food (for sure I know this lol) and also in cooking – but not in the way that he’s constantly in the kitchen, or watching cooking shows, or looking up chefs and restaurants on the internet.
I pointed this out to him and have previously pointed out that you don’t just suddenly become a Chef – master of your own kitchen and restaurant. There’s hard work involved and you start from the bottom and work your way up.
You have to LOVE what you’re doing. You’re going to be cooking the same dishes over and over and over, in a hot, busy, noisy kitchen.
He wasn’t sure what else he had a talent for or an interest in, until I pointed out the fact that there is one constant in his life lately that he seems to also enjoy. Photography.
We’ll see where that goes, but I had already been thinking about passion and this only served to bring on more pondering.
What is my passion?
I’m not sure. I know what I like to do.
I know I’m pretty good at a few things, but by no means do I excel in anything that I’m aware of.
I like to write. I like to draw. I like to paint. I like to sing. I like to take photographs. But I’m really not GREAT at any of those things.
If someone came to me and said ‘Debauch,’ (ok, we’ve established my name is Amanda in my first post, I suppose it’s alright to use it).
Rewind, they start over and come to me and say, ‘Amanda, you no longer have to worry about earning money. Your rent, food, utilities and car are covered. Go and pursue your passion!’
I would have no clue what I would do!
I titled this post ‘I’m not a groupie’ for a reason. I have a few – OK, several ex’s that were in bands.
Yes, it’s exciting to be at a show, yes, it is kind of cool to be the singer/drummer/bass players girlfriend. BUT! That wasn’t what drew me to any of them.
Other than my passion for music, I’m drawn to people who pursue their dreams.
Drive, ambition, hard work and gratitude for whatever fruit is born from that. Yup.
For me, there’s nothing sexier than someone who not only shows an interest in something, but has the tenacity to develop their talent and then not only work hard to chase their dream but to MAKE IT HAPPEN? Holy cow. THAT is a turn on.
It says a lot about a person who knows who they are, what they want and has the courage and drive to achieve it.
Whatever ‘it’ is. Doesn’t have to be music.
I’m not a groupie, I’m a ‘dream chaser connoisseur’.
I had a great opportunity this Summer to meet the Gin Blossoms singer Robin Wilson.
Watch any live video of him on YouTube and you’ll see a man who loves what he does and loves interacting with his fans.
I told him this. I mentioned how amazing it was to see him enjoying his show.
He told me that he really does love what he does and still has fun doing it.
He went on to share some of his inspirations with me. Some were other frontmen who enjoy what they do as much as he does. It really comes through in the performance you know.
No matter what you do – enthusiasm for it, comes through in the performance.
I think right now in my life, my passion may be learning? Growing spiritually and making connections. If I didn’t have to work – if I had an all access pass to pursue a passion … I think I’d grab my son and hit the road.
I’d show him some of the countries I’ve had the honor of visiting.
I would want to return to India – show him how happy some of the poorest communities are because they are grateful.
I would want to return to France and Italy and Greece and show him art and architecture.
I would want to return to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran and show him what it’s like to live in surrounded by unrest and fear.
I would do those things, and take photographs and write about it here.
I think I found it.
My passion is all of the things I don’t do perfectly, but love doing. ♥
Being a mom, a student, a teacher – immersing myself in other cultures and beliefs – and sharing that.
And, if we hit a few concerts on the way? Just remember – I’m not a groupie!
