Musings from the Laundromat – Super Moon Sunday
There is one advantage to being roused from sleep at various times during the night/early morning – and that is the night sky.
Thanks to Butters, my sleepless manatee, I witnessed this on Friday the 8th. (Well, considering the ungodly hour, I guess it was technically Saturday the 9th)
I’m surprised at how well they came out considering I was half asleep, and capturing the moon looking like anything more than a blurry dust mote on the lens without a tripod is near impossible for me even when wide awake.
I did absolutely no editing at all. It seemed strange to me that the moon was setting so early (3:30 am? It felt like 3:30 am …) But there it is – quickly going from the sky to behind a tree and finally sinking behind the mountain.
Tonight should make for more amazing photos as it is Super Moon Sunday.
What’s so super about it? Well, it will be closer to the earth than it’s been in over 20 years.
Throw into the mix the fact that it will appear 30% brighter and 14% bigger too!
Not going to lie, there is a part of me that hopes I miss it due to uninterrupted sleep. But if I am up, I’ll snap some shots.
Mutating the Mundane
These are all things in my home photographed by me – the last being a painting I created that sits in a window. I see beauty in all that surrounds me – I wanted to amplify it – this is what I see in the ‘ordinary’.
The Shadow of my Buddha
The paintbrushes that sit on my dresser
Blood Orange
My son’s herbs – thriving in the kitchen window
Butters in the window
My man amongst the cacti – shattered effect
Thanksgiving 2013 album
My favorite part of the day wasn’t the food (although, the food was amazing) it wasn’t the football (especially since the Packers lost ARG!) it wasn’t driving home and seeing Christmas lights …
My favorite part of the day, wasn’t even eating a spoonful of freshly whipped cream.
It was sitting across from my son at a table of six, making eye contact with him and getting the giggles. No words were exchanged, they weren’t needed – and we sat trying hard not to laugh as we shared a private joke.
It proved to be impossible and Nicholas ended up leaving the table before he completely lost it.
We laugh … A LOT! Just moments ago – we hugged and I told him “I love you – I’m thankful for you. ”
I’m so blessed to have such a strong connection with my son. Having spent so much time together alone (that didn’t sound right to me the first time I said it either) we have a bond that is unbreakable.
Hope all who celebrated Thanksgiving and Hanukkah today had many moments that made them smile – and many things to be grateful for.
Here is a sampling of our day.
Pre-dinner silly poses. I pointed out the sticky-up-hair after the pic 😉
Still unfed – but full of happy
The table – pre-food laden
Visited by my moms dog – Meesha
Went outside to escape the smell of the cooking food – Nic caught a candid moment
Now I’m just really restless and messing around
AND THEN!
I had no room for dessert – except for that spoonful of whipped cream. 😉
Tomorrow – we’ll recover from a week of food debauchery – no black Friday for us.
If you plan on going – be careful out there!
Musings from the laundromat: Music in Black & White
I’ve been on a few tangents this morning – wondering what to write about.
I was going to do a ‘memory lane’ type post – which had me looking at some photos from the past, then focused on concert photos – and finally playing with those photos and making them black and white. Yes, I took them – yes, I intended for the grainy/newspaper clipping effect.
Without further ado – here are some of my favorite ones. Hope you enjoy!
Bret Michaels:
I saw Poison twice in the 80’s, so when Bret came into town – I had to share some nostalgia with my son – who happened to be just about the age I was when I saw Poison. Crazy!
Gwen Stefani:
Definitely at the top of my list for performances. She’s amazing – and gorgeous.
The Summerland Tour:
One of my favorite nights ever – the bands co-mingled, the energy was high – my son was with me.
Lit:
Lit joined by John of Marcy Playground:
Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray doing … I’m not sure what, with Lit:
Gin Blossoms:
Robin Wilson
Jesse Valenzuela – getting a little help (he does not need help)

Art Alexakis
Sugar Ray:
Mark McGrath and Robin Wilson:
John of Marcy Playground, playing on Sugar Rays stage
My favorite photo from that night, Nic, learning how to ‘concert’ like his mom. 🙂
The photo I obviously did not take – Robin Wilson and I hug it out.

The one, the only, Terri Nunn
